Skipton Big Ideas is the centrepiece of our 2021 programme. It is an installation exhibition on a scale and level of ambition unlike Jersey has ever seen before! We will be transforming the already reverential interior and grounds of the St. Helier Town Church into a bespoke gallery featuring sculpture, light, augmented reality, sound and interactive installations. Expect pieces that you can step inside of, walk through, play with and that perhaps make you feel provoked, inspired, challenged and even enlightened. The exhibition will be open to all and free to attend thanks to the generous sponsorship of Skipton International.
Back in the covid-free days of 2019 ArtHouse Jersey commissioned over 40 local and international artists, architects and designers to create work that responds to the world they see around them with a particular focus on identity, sustainability and accessibility. When the exhibition had to be postponed in 2020 it gave the artists more time to reflect on these themes and how they relate to this new world that we see around us as we continue to adapt to life in a pandemic. Some of these themes may have had less air time in recent months with the coverage being focussed on covid, the elections, Brexit and social unrest, but they still speak to the heart of our challenge as a community and feel even more pertinent and universally relevant now than ever before.
