Skipton Open Studios

Celebrating the visual arts in Jersey

The Skipton Open Studios, sponsored by Skipton International and produced by ArtHouse Jersey, has been a reoccurring project that celebrates the wealth of talented artists and makers in Jersey.

This popular Jersey event, sees local artists open their studios or take up residence in unusual sites around the island. The public is invited to engage with artists, learn about their practice, and to purchase or commission work directly.

Since 2014, Skipton Open Studios has seen Taster Exhibitions at CCA International Gallery, community art projects taking place in the Royal Square, a steam-roller being utilized as a print-press, a large scale mural being painted on Normans Commercial Buildings, special one-off screenings at Havres des Pas, and thousands of locals and visitors to the island visiting visual artists studios. After nine successful years of the initiative, ArtHouse Jersey redefined the event for 2018, allowing artists of differing practices, including literature, performance and music to participate.

Witness the artistic culture of the island

The 2018 Skipton Open Studios was one of the most ambitious to date. Thousands of visitors enjoyed Jersey’s creative culture as Skipton Open Studios completed its ninth year as a Jersey-wide art event, celebrating the wealth of artistic talent on the Island. There were 38 studio locations and over 200 individual artists, groups, galleries and independent businesses took part.

Studios ranged from intimate individual spaces tucked away in Jersey’s countryside to group exhibitions with workshops and special parties. While several artists hosted and organised their own art classes, demos and talks, the producers of the event, ArtHouse Jersey, also ran a special programme of exciting and creative activities.
