Announcing the latest round of successful artists who applied for ArtHouse Jersey’s Development Grants 2025

We are delighted to announce some of the successful artists who applied for the second round of their Development Grants. This quarterly funding initiative offers financial assistance to support the creation of new work or for the development of an artist’s creative process as they pursue a career in the arts. Among those in this most recent quarter was a proof-of-concept TV pilot, a new EP, skills training for a luthier (maker and repairer of string instruments) and a thought-provoking short film.

Jack Evans-Rentsch: Proof-of-concept for a TV pilot called 'State of Abêtorney'

Jack Evans-Rentsch is an actor and writer, who is in the process of creating a new comedy about remote Island politics. Jack has worked with collaborator Max Nicholls to create the premise for the show which is being produced by Tiny Speck Productions. They will be shooting the short film on location in Jersey with local cast and crew and the project will serve as a proof of concept, setting the stage for a larger production further down the line. They hope that the political commentary will act as a humorous yet impactful portrayal of the issues that affect Jersey and the Channel Islands so uniquely. Jack said. “Max, Tiny Speck and I are over the moon to have ArtHouse Jersey's support. We are excited to be one step closer to making this a reality.”

Henry Matson (FlashMob): Recording and production of a new EP

Henry Matson is part of the four piece rock band ‘FlashMob’ based in Jersey. The group have recently released a new EP called ‘Night in the West: Vol I’ and they have been awarded funding for the follow up Vol II which they are aiming to record towards the end of the year. Henry said “We’re so grateful to ArtHouse Jersey for awarding us a grant. The grant will be invested into creating a new record. It will help us to record and produce some new original tunes to a high quality. The support that ArtHouse Jersey provides to local artists is invaluable and ensures that grassroots artists are provided with opportunities they would not otherwise have. We can’t wait to get our project fully off the ground and look forward to releasing the new record next year!”

Hanni El Dardiry Osman: Skills training for the creation of acoustic guitars

Hanni El Dardiry Osman is a luthier (maker and repairer of string instruments). He makes his own custom acoustic guitars as well as a variety of woodwork projects including boxes, art framing and jewellery using sustainable resources. His current goal is to produce a guitar from materials collected following Storm Ciaran in 2023, from start to finish including the milling and drying process. This grant will enable Hanni to undertake the necessary skills training to operate a chainsaw in order to process timber for the creation of his guitars.

Sean Frost: Short film ‘Memoriam’

Sean Frost writes, directs and composes scores for thought provoking short films that aim to entertain while addressing current themes that are relevant to the wider world. With this project Sean will be building on his skills as a filmmaker and creating an immersive, cinematic short film that uses powerful sound design to put the audience in the position of someone inside a Nazi bunker during WW2 - with an emphasis on the auditory experience rather than the visuals. Sean said  “ArtHouse Jersey’s generous grant will provide the majority of the budget for the film ‘Memoriam’, an 8-10 minute short that will be shot in Jersey in the autumn of this year. The film centres around the grandson of a Nazi soldier who begins experiencing troubling hallucinations of war when he visits the Jersey bunker where his grandfather was based - and is loosely inspired by the true story of the Sassy Sue which sunk off the coast of Jersey during the war.”
