Art, architecture and place: ArtHouse Jersey & Ashbe announce creative partnership

ArtHouse Jersey and Ashbe Construction Ltd have announced a new partnership that will embed artistic thinking into the Island’s built environment, creating meaningful opportunities for artists while enhancing the quality and experience of new developments across Jersey.

Working collaboratively through Jersey’s Percentage for Art framework, the partnership brings together ArtHouse Jersey’s expertise in artist development and commissioning with Ashbe’s growing portfolio of residential, commercial and infrastructure projects. Together, the organisations will integrate artists into development projects from an early stage, ensuring that new spaces are not only functional, but also culturally rich, distinctive and rooted in place.

Within the partnership, ArtHouse Jersey will play a key advisory and producing role. This includes identifying and connecting Ashbe with artists whose practices align with the scale and context of each project, supporting the development of artist briefs, and facilitating collaboration between artists, architects and construction teams throughout the process. The collaboration directly supports ArtHouse Jersey’s strategic aim to Nurture, creating new commissioning pathways for local artists within the construction and development sector. By opening up these opportunities, the partnership contributes to a more sustainable creative ecology in Jersey, ensuring that artistic talent is embedded within the Island’s future growth and that public art becomes a visible and valued part of everyday life.

CEO for ArtHouse Jersey, Tom Dingle, said, “By working with Ashbe at this early stage in the development process, we’re able to place artists at the heart of how spaces are conceived and experienced. This partnership allows us to create meaningful opportunities for local artists while helping shape environments that people genuinely connect with.”

Managing Director for Ashbe Construction Ltd, Ben Cairney, said, “At Ashbe Construction, our ethos is built on delivering more than just bricks and mortar; we aim to create environments that truly enrich the community. Partnering with Arthouse Jersey allows us to bridge the gap between structural excellence and cultural value, transforming the 'Percentage for Art' requirement into a meaningful investment in our island’s creative future."

Ashbe Construction Ltd, established in 2016, is a locally founded and independently owned design-and-build company delivering a wide range of projects across Jersey, from bespoke homes to major infrastructure works. With a strong emphasis on craftsmanship, collaboration and local supply chains, the company has built a reputation for high-quality, value-driven construction alongside a commitment to sustainability and community impact.

This partnership marks a significant step in strengthening the relationship between the arts and the built environment in Jersey, demonstrating how creative collaboration can shape not only how places look, but how they are experienced by the communities who use them.
