Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series: David Gardiner and Nicola McAteer
We are pleased to announce the latest in our Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series this time with local artists David Gardiner and Nicola McAteer at Elizabeth Sarah Art. The Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series is a programme of intimate weekend exhibitions featured across the year at ArtHouse Jersey’s HQ at the historic Grève de Lecq Barracks studios which invites the community to enjoy the work of local artists in ArtHouse Jersey’s unique exhibition space for a short ‘pop up’ time period. The programme provides artists with a professional space to showcase their work while offering the public an opportunity to meet practising artists in person and learn more about their craft. This upcoming exhibition will take placeon Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 June, running from 10am to 5pm on both days.
David Gardiner decided to pursue photography professionally in 2012 with travel playing a central role in his practice. Since his retirement he has been exploring mixed media, printing his photographs and re-engaging them with the emotions present at the moment each image was captured using a range of tools and techniques.
David Gardiner said, “Reality is not always what art is meant to represent, art captures what humanity sees or feels and this is what I try to capture. I try to paint something that reconnects me with something strongly felt and not necessarily seen. Photography is about the subject, art is about how the artist interacts with the subject. Imperfection is made by the sign it’s humans”.
Nicola McAteer at Elizabeth Sarah Art shows creativity and emotion come together on canvas. Painting, sketching, and building textured pieces are her passion. She explores how materials express energy, movement and feeling, creating intrigue and layers that invite the viewer to look closer.
Nicola McAteer said, “In this exhibition I will be showcasing my acrylic paintings, rich in texture and inspired by the expressive energy and contemporary abstraction of Jackson Pollock, alongside beach scenes capturing the beauty and character of my gorgeous shorelines in Jersey. Through layers of paint, movement, and texture, the collection celebrates the colours and atmosphere of summer by the coast. I’m especially looking forward to sharing this exhibition with fellow artist David Gardiner and am incredibly excited to showcase our work together”.
