Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series: Nigel Curnock, Yvonne Webb and Louise Ramsay
Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August, 10am to 5pm at Grève de Lecq Barracks studios
ArtHouse Jersey is pleased to announce the latest in their Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series, a vibrant programme designed to showcase the talent of local artists for a short ‘pop up’ time period at the historic Grève de Lecq Barracks studios.
This upcoming exhibition on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August features a trio of Jersey painters: Nigel Curnock, Yvonne Webb and Louise Ramsay. Open from 10am to 5pm on both days visitors are invited to meet the artists, explore their distinct styles, and purchase original art in a unique coastal gallery setting.
Nigel Curnock is a former chef who turned to painting in retirement six years ago. He is a completely self-taught artist whose hobby quickly transformed into a passion. He will be presenting acrylic paintings of iconic Jersey coastline scenes as well as Chateaux and village scenes from Brittany.
“I am really looking forward to presenting my paintings to the general public for the very first time. I am totally self taught, having received no formal training. My art journey began relatively recently, beginning with very simple paintings, and the more I painted, the more I became hooked. What started as a hobby in my retirement has now become something of an obsession. I liken painting with my other passion, cooking. Creating a lovely dish or a painting is a similar experience to me”.
Yvonne Webb has recently been experimenting with a more abstract way of working using acrylics and mixed media to explore colour and form. Her works are shaped by movement, tension, and natural forces, using layered mark making and a variety of tools to build up the images.
"As a self-taught artist balancing work and creative life, this exhibition has been the perfect spur to focus on studio time and making art. I’m excited to share these new pieces, which are largely shaped by the colors of nature, my mind’s eye, and direct responses to written inspiration."
Louise Ramsay has a background in fine art, art history and easel painting conservation. In her practice she has explored the Island’s landscapes and seascapes working in her studio and painting en plein air. In this exhibition she will also be presenting some of her still life work.
“I draw inspiration from Jersey's rich, coastal landscape and fresh, local produce. I am looking forward to sharing my new work which will include landscapes and still life paintings. Both my studio and plein air work celebrate Jersey's beaches, ever-changing skies and the island's unique light. This Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series provides a wonderful opportunity to collaborate with other artists and I am pleased to be exhibiting work alongside Yvonne Webb and Nigel Curnock”.
