Collins Pop Up Series exhibition with Demeter Dykes and Lee White
Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 of May 2025, 10am to 5pm
‘HO HO! SHOUT I’
The latest in our Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series features work by local artists Demeter Dykes and Lee White. will take place at Greve de Lecq Barracks on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 May 2025, running from 10am to 5pm on both days. There will also be some special drop-in performances at 12pm and 2.30pm on both days (between 10 and 15 mins in duration).
Demeter Dykes is currently pursuing a professional doctorate in fine art at the University of East London. Her research practice plays with the notion of being seen as a mature woman, and sets out to challenge expected norms using celebratory, provocative and powerful imagery. Humour and transgression are an important aspect of this work which takes the form of photographs, animations, object making and live performances.
Demeter Dykes said, “Being invited to take part in the Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series is a great opportunity to collaborate with Lee White by combining art performance with theatre performance which may, hopefully, lead to future interactions. The title for the show (‘HO HO! SHOUT I’) is taken from the poem Orgasmic Toast by the wonderful and original poet and artist Baroness Elsa von Freytag- Loringhoven”.
Lee White has been practising and sharing crafts internationally for over twenty years. He practices various art making techniques with a focus on sculpture and mask creation. In this exhibition he will be providing a window into the intricate world of Commedia dell'arte craftsmanship, presenting leather masks made in the traditional Italian artisan technique formulated in the early 1500s.
Lee White said “I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to come out and play with the curious and playful Demeter Dykes in the latest show in the Collins Pop Up Exhibition series by ArtHouse Jersey. It may just surprise art lovers and artists with a unique quirky collaboration. Seeking to both test new material and cross pollinate more ideas for more future curiosities.”
The artists are collaborating to present their drop-in performances which will follow the Commedia dell'arte ethos with Zanni Po Po (Lee White), the servant and trickster, introducing an itinerant interloper (Demeter Dykes), to the stage to perform absurd happenings. There will also be small suspended backdrops and costumes for visitors to try on and take photographs.
The Collins Pop Up Exhibition Series is a programme of intimate weekend exhibitions featured across the year. It invites the community to enjoy the work of local artists in ArtHouse Jersey’s unique exhibition space for a short ‘pop up’ time period and provides artists with a professional space to showcase their work.
