November at ArtHouse Jersey

There's been a lot going on at ArtHouse Jersey over the past few weeks including out first 'Intergenerational Art' project taking place at St. Clement Parish Hall.We've had some exciting writers taking up residence at Greve de Lecq. Whilst here, they've each been working on their own projects, but also helping us to deliver some fantastic outreach events within the community. Our Seed Funding artists have also been very busy, with new music and projects well underway.Many of you will have seen information across our social channels about Skipton Big Ideas, a large scale, interactive exhibition running next year. We're calling for artists and designers to respond to a brief as part of this project.Read on to find out more about all this and more ...Festive, feel-food and Fun! ... Intergenerational Art comes to JerseyFestive, feel good and a whole lot of fun ... This Christmas, with the support of Bedell Cristin, we brought local school-children together with older parishioners to make Christmas decorations in an intergenerational workshop led by local illustrator Lauren Radley. Stories were shared, jokes were exchanged and new friends were made! Click to watch the full video about the project.WALKING GALLERY: Call to designersA reminder to local designers: We are looking for local designers and artists to use their flair for fashion to create pieces of wearable art.The work will be showcased in ‘Walking Gallery,’ a fashion show celebrating creativity and addressing some of the world’s most pressing and critical issues including sustainability, accessibility and identity. Find out more and apply here by 16th December.Inaugural Writers Week sees high profile writers visit JerseyWe have just said goodbye to four talented writers who were staying with us at Greve de Lecq as part of our inaugural 'Writers Week.'The 'Writers in Residence' were Candice Carty-Williams, Andy Stanton, Cesca Major and Charlene James. ArtHouse Jersey residencies give international creatives the time and headspace to work on their own projects, away from the pressures of their everyday lives. Generally, they will also take part in outreach on Island, engaging with the local community.  In the case of the writers, we hosted an informal panel discussion with aspiring writers and four writers were also given the opportunity to have one-to-one mentorship.Award-winning author Laura Mucha talks L.O.V.ELaura Mucha, author of 'Love Factually: The Science of Who, How and Why we Love' was on Island last month as part of our Artist Residency programme.Whilst here she delivered two poetry-writing workshops with children from La Moye School and Rouge Bouillon, gave a talk at the Barclays Eagle Lab at Jersey Library and was the special guest at our 'Feast of Love.' The paper-back version of her book is available for pre-order now.We've made a few changes to our website, with a brand new 'What's On' page. The idea is to make it easier for you to find out what's happening across the ArtHouse Jersey programme throughout the year.

News from our Seed Funding Artists

Jersey musician Vivian Vavasseur, who is now based in Berlin, has released his debut music video, created with funds granted through ArtHouse Jersey Seed Funding.In the video, directed by Eloise Walker, a barkeeper closes up shop, allowing himself a moment of peace, without self-consciousness and expectation where he is taken away by a song. Click to watch the full video hereReturning from London for his first headline show, Sam Walwyn is performing with his newly formed band for the first time in Jersey live at The Blue Note on 19th December. Make sure to get yourself down for a chance to see this exciting young artist in action!
There will be a special guest acoustic performance from another ArtHouse Jersey Seed Funding artist Tadhg Daly and support from Phoebe OverARTIST CALL OUT: If you're an ambitious Jersey artist looking for funding to help create work that will have an impact on local or international audiences, apply for an ArtHouse Jersey Seed Funding Grant. The deadline for this round of applications is February 1st 2020. Last week, we hosted an intimate dinner in honour of an upcoming exhibition from ArtHouse Jersey Seed Funding artist Lulu MacDonald. Hailing from Jersey, but now based in Hamburg, Lulu's work will be popping up in a St. Helier shop in the spring of 2020. More to follow ...We are seeking two new independent trustees to join our board in the coming months. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from potential trustees who have expertise in areas including brand management, PR, fundraising and those with legal experience. Jersey artists Emma Reid and Karen Le Roy Harris recently undertook a residency at the prestigious Red Gate Gallery in Beijing. The project was funded by the Ministry of External Relations as part of their Bilateral Programme Fund, which aims to develop links with some of the Island’s most important partner jurisdictions.
