ArtHouse Jersey sends Artists to China
ArtHouse Jersey is sending two local artists to China to take part in a prestigious residency project at the internationally renowned Red Gate Gallery in Beijing
Karen Le Roy Harris and Emma Reid, professional artists hailing from Jersey, are participating in the Red Gate Gallery’s residency scheme. The gallery supports artists from all over the world to come and experience China first-hand and develop their artistic practice.Its structured residency scheme offers accommodation, working space, supported networking and opportunities to exhibit as part of its monthly open studio programme. As ArtHouse Jersey grows its own residency offering at its flagship home at the Greve de Lecq Barracks, it is seeking to develop relationships with international partners such as the Red Gate Gallery, providing opportunities for Jersey artists to be supported in projects with Chinese contemporaries.
Should funding be available, ArtHouse Jersey hopes to invite Chinese artists to the Island in 2020 to undertake a residency. Work created in Beijing and Jersey as part of these exchanges could then be exhibited in both locations, building meaningful and lasting links between the two countries.The project is funded by the Ministry of External Relations as part of their Bilateral Programme Fund, which aims to develop links with some of the Island’s most important partner jurisdictions. The Chief Minister of Jersey, Senator John Le Fondré, is visiting Beijing this week, and will meet with the two Jersey artists and the Director of the Red Gate Gallery, Brian Wallace, as part of his official visit.
