People We Love - Be filmed as part of Skipton Big Ideas: Human Connections

We are appealing to people in Jersey to take part in a stunning and emotive art installation, People We Love, as part of Skipton Big Ideas: Human Connections.

People We Love is a community-based, international touring artwork where individuals are filmed looking at images of people they love by creative collective KMA - Kit Monkman. In this Jersey edition, ArtHouse Jersey and international media arts agency Mediale, invite you to take part in this beautiful and timely artwork that centres around the emotion that bonds us all - love. Guided by an audio meditation, each participant will be filmed gazing at a picture of someone they love, a picture the audience will never see. Filming takes place at St Helier Town Church from Wednesday 13 September to Sunday 17 September 2023. The footage will be used in People We Love as part of the Skipton Big Ideas: Human Connections, sponsored by Skipton International, which opens to the public on Friday 3 November 2023 at ArtHouse Jersey at Capital House and other Island locations.

HOW IT WORKS & HOW TO TAKE PART

Participants are asked to bring a photo, physical or digital, of a person you love (sorry, no images of pets allowed). You will never be asked who it is, or why you’ve chosen that particular person, and no-one who views the final artwork will ever know who you are looking at. The filming process takes around 20 minutes and requires nothing more than your attention. Tea and coffee will be provided.

Those who would like to take part are asked to book via our Eventbrite page. Participants must be aged 16+ (under 18s with an appropriate adult) and be available for filming on one of these dates below. In order to comply with GDPR participants will be required to complete a filming consent form on arrival.

People We Love comes to the Island as part of ArtHouse Jersey’s Skipton Big Ideas: Human Connections, sponsored by long term partners Skipton International. This exciting multi-venue exhibition uses a range of different media to examine human connections; how we occupy spaces together, how we communicate physically and emotionally, and how we empathise with each other's lived experience. The artworks, many of which have an interactive element, will offer lots of fun and interesting opportunities for people to become part of the exhibiting artworks.

Artist and People We Love creator Kit Monkman of KMA, said "I am delighted to bring People We Love to your beautiful Island and to create this new edition of the artwork in collaboration with the people of Jersey. I find in all of these faces a silent affirmation of much that is best about being human, about the love that binds us, the stories that connect us, the light we create for ourselves, partly in acknowledgement, and partly in defiance, of the pain and suffering that accompanies us all."
